In May 2018 I took on the challenge of running the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island, BC in one day. In the end it took me 15 hours to run the 80km trail, and it finished off with a 100m swim across Gordon River at the end. The terrain is rugged and the water is cold… I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone. An experience I’ll remember and share for the rest of my life.
Running The Trail:
The Full Trip (Full Video):
I love to challenge myself, but this one pushed my limits. It was hands down the hardest thing I’ve ever done (so far), and doing it solo without a plan B gave me no choice, but to finish. I was difficult to push through the pain, near the end it was pure agony in every step, and when I finally made it to the South trail head I found myself starring at Gordon River at dusk. The water was cold, but without any other alternative I didn’t hesitate and ran right in it with clothing, shoes, pack and all… fortunately, I made it across! I was exhausted.
Unless you’re an absolute freak, please don’t attempt this… and if you do, bring a paddle-board or boat to get across Gordon River at the end.
